Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of interventions based on the transtheoretical model and stages of change on relief of anxiety in patients with maintenance hemodialysis. Methods Totally 70 patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis between Feb, 2018 and Feb, 2020 were recruited as the research objects. According to the treatment schedule, 35 patients who attended the hospital at Monday, Wednesday and Friday were included as the control group, another 35 patients attended the hospital at Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday were included as the observation group. All patients received routine care and health education, and those in the observation group were given nursing interventions based on the transtheoretical model and stages. The anxiety status of patients was evaluated by Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Results The SAS score decreased in both observation group and control group after intervention, and SAS score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion Nursing interventions based on the transtheoretical model and stages of change are effective to relieve anxiety status of patients with maintenance hemodialysis, and improve patient quality of life and efficiency of dialysis care provided by nurses.
